Crossing America Goes to Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Students join Ranger friends to explore the misty valleys and diverse ecosystems of the Smokies.
We investigate why this is the most biodiverse park in the country, how Appalachian culture and traditions are tied to the land, and how stories shape our connection to place. Together, we consider what it means to live in balance with the natural world.
Engineering Design Challenge: Students design and build a mist collector that can capture and store water from the air. They must decide on the shape, surface material, and collection system to gather the most water, simulating how communities in misty mountain regions can use creative solutions for water needs.
