Students join Ranger friends to step into the history of Charleston Harbor and learn how forts protected the coastline for centuries.
We examine how the design of forts has changed over time, the role they played in both defense and community life, and how they connect to the broader story of American history. Together, we consider what it takes to protect people and places against natural and human-made threats.
Engineering Design Challenge: Students design and build a fortification model that can withstand tests such as wind, water, or impact. They must consider placement, wall design, and materials to provide the best defense.
